A 250 Years of Art on Long Island:

In celebration of the 250th Anniversary of the United States of America, this landmark exhibition explores the many ways in which Long Island has reflected and helped to shape the story of American art.
Chief curator Franklin Hill Perrell emphasizes that such contemporary artists as Ross Bleckner, Louise Sloane, Donald Sultan, and 2026 NCMA Artist-in-Residence Glen Hansen have continued the revolutionary success of their predecessors: “Today’s artists, following in their footsteps, may be found anywhere on Long Island, whether or not their intent is descriptive, portraying their physical surroundings, or transcending realism into other realms of interest. The creative energy of new artists has continued to grow unabated, lending our Island a surpassing richness of accomplishment in the visual arts.” Featuring over 120 works by 78 artists, decorative art objects, and historic objects displayed together in immersive settings, 250 Years of Art on Long Island celebrates the region’s enduring influence and rich artistic legacy.

A Portrait of America:
Documentary Photography at 250 Years

Tying in with the USA’s 250th anniversary, this documentary photography show features twenty-one photographers and one poet/artist. They follow in the spirit of such iconic American documentary photographers as Dorothea Lange, Walker Evans and Robert Frank, and their works offer a reflection on the country—the good, the bad and the ugly.

Part collection, part observation, part experiment, this exhibition brings together paintings, drawings, found objects, and natural curiosities gathered over time. Inspired by the flora and fauna of the North Fork, memories of place, folklore, and the beauty of overlooked objects, the work explores what it means to create from what is already here.

Continuing the growth of Roy Nicholson’s “52 Weeks” collection, for his second time-based series, the artist again embraced the discipline of creating one painting each week for an entire year using his Sag Harbor garden as both subject and studio. This sustained practice became a meditation on observation, capturing the subtle shifts of seasons, weather, changing light, and the continual cycles of growth and decline. Throughout the “TENDING TIME” exhibition, milkweed, peonies, daisies, and irises, as well as other plant life such as asparagus, hellebore, sumac, and basil move fluidly between representation and abstraction, and emerge alongside views of the wooded landscape beyond Nicholson’s garden borders.

“Nature In Balance” opens on Saturday, July 11th with a reception, 3-6pm. The artists are Erin Daniels, Will McCarthy, Laura Stroh & Arlene Steinberg.

Erin Daniels draws inspiration from the coastal meadows and tidal waterways that have shaped her lifelong connection to the landscape.
Will McCarthy’s luminous oil paintings transform memories of trees, fields, rivers, and sky into atmospheric and evocative compositions.
Laura Stroh uses vibrant color and expressive brushwork to reveal the emotional qualities of the landscape.
Working in colored pencil, Arlene Steinberg elevates everyday subjects through her masterful manipulation of color, light, and layered detail.

Bird Song Project: A Sculpture Trail

East End Arts Council is proud to collaborate with North Fork Audubon Society on the 2026 Bird Song Project: A Sculpture Trail, an immersive outdoor art experience at Inlet Pond County Park in Greenport, NY.

Now in its third year, the Bird Song Project brings together nature, art, music, and community in a creative celebration of the natural world. Visitors are invited to explore a series of outdoor sculptures inspired by birds, wildlife, and the surrounding landscape, all set along the scenic trails of Inlet Pond County Park.
