Askasqáyuw Wacuw: Green Hill

North Fork Art Collective
207 Main Street
Greenport, NY 11944

Opening Reception: Friday, Oct 9th, 5 – 8pm

Guest Curated by Shinnecock Indian Nation artist Jeremy Dennis

North Fork Art Collective presents ASKASQÁYUW WACUW (Green Hill), a group exhibition guest-curated by Jeremy Dennis, Shinnecock artist and Lead Artist of Ma’s House & BIPOC Art Studio. Bringing together artists from the Shinnecock Indian Nation alongside Indigenous artists who have participated in Ma’s House residency programs, the exhibition considers relationships between land, memory, transformation, and Indigenous presence on Long Island.

The exhibition takes its name from “Green Hill,” one of the earlier names for what is now Greenport. Historical accounts describe a prominent hill that once marked the landscape before it was eventually leveled, with its earth used to expand parts of the developing commercial waterfront. ASKASQÁYUW WACUW uses this history as a starting point to ask what happens when land is physically changed, occupied, renamed, or remembered after it is gone.

Through contemporary Indigenous perspectives, participating artists explore green as color, landscape, grass, plant life, medicine, growth, and renewal—as well as a way to think about land loss and what may exist today only through memory. Rather than treating landscape as a passive backdrop, ASKASQÁYUW WACUW considers land as a living archive carrying history, relationships, absence, survival, and possibilities for the future.

David Collins

Chronicle Wines
2885 Peconic Ln.
Peconic, NY 11958

Reception: Sunday, October 11th 3 – 5pm

Born in Iowa and raised in Texas, David Collins received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1988. Known for his colorful, densely layered abstract paintings. Collins is fascinated by the fluidness of memory and creates a visual language dominated by sites of airports, homes, and construction sites from his recollections. Collins renders these industrial sites and locus of his memories in highly geometric planes and vivid colors. As the viewer is led through his complex compositions, structures begin to assemble into familiar forms while simultaneously expanding and fragmenting.

Bringing together artists from across the country, The Print Continuum explores the dynamic relationship between traditional printmaking practices and contemporary experimentation.

The exhibition showcases the remarkable range and versatility of printmaking, from time-honored techniques to innovative and hybrid approaches that expand our understanding of what a print can be.
